Remembering a Remarkable Woman on the First Anniversary of Her Death

Her name?

Amy Krouse Rosenthal.

(She was just 51 years old.)

If you’ve never heard of her, google her now.

(I can wait.)

So why am I writing about her here?

Two reasons:

  1. Very few (if any) of Google’s search results mention her advertising career
  2. I firmly believe the freelance agency she founded, Boy & Girl Advertising, was inspired by the success of Lunch Hour, Ltd., the freelance partnership of Ron Anderson, Pat Fallon and Tom McElligott.

Below are some of examples of her One Show award-winning work…

Amy and I were partners at the now defunct Chicago agency, Mitchiner, Ross & Kahn in the early 90’s. Her side gig was B&G Advertising. The last ad we did together was one for her husband, personal injury attorney, Jason Rosenthal. It was a One Show finalist. When I worked with Amy, I knew I was in the presence of greatness. A kind soul with the quirkiest of personalities, she was wise beyond her years. RIP my old friend. Still can’t believe you’re gone.

Thanks for taking time to post a comment, Bill!

Maybe you could ask your friend, Tom, to post a comment, too 😀

I don’t know that I ever had the pleasure of meeting Amy in person, but I do know she went on to a career writing children’s books with an illustrator named Tom Lichtenheld. Tom was an early art director partner of mine when I worked in Madison, WI. He never worked for Bozell, but he was hired and worked as an art director for a number of years at Fallon.
